2012 has ended on a sad note as one of the founder of an LGBTI group Youth on Rock Foundation was arrested in Kawempe by police officers charging him with crimes relating to homosexuality .The act of the police just shows the continued unabated hostility harassment of LGBT community in Uganda as government officers misinform the public ,stir hatred.
One of our member has been at Kawempe police station were Joseph is still being held trying to secure his release, police say there are to charge him with Carnal Knowledge and recruiting youth into homosexuality. this comes after his postings on a social media face book and its to be used as evidence to lay charges against him.But currently now there's no law in Uganda about recruitment of homosexual it would have been a crime if the Bahati "Kill the Gay bill' had been passed.
It seems now the government of Uganda 's using the police to drum up support for the homosexuality bill to be passed that 's still pending in parliament and also it tries to divert people's attention from the gigantic corruption that has been unearthed in 2012.
While homosexuality is illegal in Uganda but its not illegal to discuss LGBT issues .I am therefore requesting members of LGBT community in Uganda to be careful with, what they post on social medias as government agencies are following them.
Happy new year
